Bass Trombonist and Northwestern Alum Brian Hecht will be presenting a masterclass and guest recital at the University of Texas in Austin on November 2, 2010. The masterclass will be taking place at 12:30pm in MBE 2.114 with a recital following at 7:30pm in the Recital Studio. Both events are free and open to the public. Brian Hecht joined the Navy Band in January of 2010.  He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007 and a Master of Music from Northwestern University in 2009. He has performed with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Washington National Opera, and National Symphony Orchestra, and has attended the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan and the Idyllwyld Music Festival in California.  His teachers include Jon Bohls, Charles Villarrubia, Nathaniel Brickens, Charles Vernon, Michael Mulcahy, and Peter Ellefson.

Petty Officer Hecht has been the recipient of numerous performance awards including first prize at the Zellmer-Minnesota Orchestra Trombone Competition, the Edwards Big 12 Bass Trombone Solo Competition, and the Eastern Trombone Workshop Trombone Quartet Competition.  In addition, he was a finalist in three international competitions held in Aarhus, Denmark in 2009 including the International Trombone Association’s Edward Kleinhammer Orchestral Bass Trombone Competition, the Donald Yaxley Solo Bass Trombone Competition, and the International Trombone Quartet Competition.
